Skaalen's Activity Department is committed to
enhancing the quality of life for residents
throughout the Skaalen community. Planned
programming options are available to all
residents and everyone is encouraged to
participate on committees that select speakers,
entertainers and special events. Residents of
Skaalen are empowered to choose the
activities they enjoy and can expect a varied leisure and activity program tailored
to their individual needs.
Our Activity Department offers:
- Community outings, such as country rides, meals, shopping and special seasonal trips in a bus equipped for ambulatory residents and for those using a wheelchair
- Intergenerational programming throughout the entire year with children of all ages
- A strong emphasis on the role of music and pets in the daily life of residents
- Opportunities for families and friends to take an active part in lifestyle choices
- Individualized programming for residents with progressive cognitive disorders based on their lifelong leisure pursuits and interests
- Interdisciplinary focus on providing comfort in end-of-life care
- An emphasis on keeping residents in touch with current and cutting-edge technology using computers and the Internet specifically designed for resident use
- A commitment to provide residents with meaningful life experiences during their stay at Skaalen; offering materials and programming to fill their day; providing individualized interventions for fulfillment and joy; extending love touches to affirm their humanness
- Intercampus events for all residents of the Skaalen retirement community
- Innovative planned programming seven days a week and several evenings a week
- Trained activity professionals specializing in the provisions of leisure and therapeutic programming for residents of all functioning levels
Ancillary Services
Beauty/Barber Shop
The Skaalen Beauty/Barber Shop operates full time and offers a full menu of services from which to choose.
Gift Shop & Kaffe Stue
The Skaalen Gift Shop, located adjacent to the Kaffe Stue, offers residents and guests an opportunity to purchase small gifts and snacks. The Kaffe Stue is a gathering place for residents, friends, family members and visitors to enjoy a cup of coffee and a fresh baked cookie.
Guest Suite
The Skaalen Guest Suite offers family members who are visiting from out-of-town a comfortable and private living/sleeping area for their use during overnight visits. (There is a nominal fee for this service).
Volunteer Opportunities
Skaalen offers a host of volunteer opportunities for anyone over the age of 12. From our Volunteens to our Auxiliary to those who wish to volunteer on a regular basis, we offer meaningful interactions with our residents. Some of the duties available are serving in our Kaffe Stue kitchen, one-on-one with residents, outings, group activities, and assisting for large activity events. During the summer months, our residents love to go outside for nature walks. You can also share your talents. Give woodworking demonstrations, knitting or crocheting or showing a movie. Help transport to our chapel for services on Sunday or to and from the Main Dining Room for meals.
